Longer days, warmer weather, flowers blooming, but oh no here comes the pollen, bugs, and dust!
Whether you’re a new homeowner, or have been in your home for years, spring cleaning should always be a staple in every household. With the pandemic limiting most people to stay and work from home, it’s more important than ever to keep your home clean and free of anything that could trigger allergies. Plus, a clean space can help clear a cluttered mind!
According to Bobvila, “during darker winter months, the body produces more melatonin, a hormone that increases sleepiness. As days lengthen, this natural lethargy lessens and we literally feel ‘lighter.’”. So now that it’s started to warm up outside and daylight savings has given us sunshine later in the day, we all have a bit more energy to help with deep cleaning.
Sometimes, we really want to jump in and start cleaning but don’t really know where to start. Luckily we’re here to give you some tips and tricks for conquering your annual spring cleaning.
Make A Schedule
You don’t necessarily need to tackle every single cleaning task in one day. You can dedicate a different weekend or day to different parts of the house until you’re done.
Making a schedule can also allow you to split tasks between your spouse, family, or roommates.
Check Your Cleaning Supplies Inventory
It’s important to not only make sure you have all the cleaning supplies that you would need before starting but also making sure to look out for ones that may be harmful for you or your family.
Double check about what cleaning products should not be used together. That way you can make sure you don’t wake up passed out from mixing two products that are toxic to you.
Clean From Top to Bottom
If you’re cleaning dust off your fans, it wouldn’t make much sense to vacuum or sweep your floors before that. You want to make sure that while you’re cleaning you do it efficiently so there’s not extra work to do.
Pay Special Attention To The Appliances That You Use everyday
This can include anything from the dishwasher to your tea kettle. Even if it seems clean there may be some lingering bacteria that should be cleaned to ensure daily tasks of cooking aren’t affected by it.
Whether it’s by using water and vinegar or baking soda, there are some easy and quick ways to clean appliances we may not see actual mess on. Even your trash can might have a lingering smell when the garbage is removed.
Improving Features and House Maintenance
This can include checking to make sure your windows don’t have any cracks that may let heat or A/C out. You may not be thinking of selling your home any time soon or ever but it’s always a good idea to keep the home value the same or find ways to increase it.
Landscaping can also increase your home value and curb appeal. Check out our post for some great landscaping related tips.
Painting rooms a new fresh color and getting your roof and gutters checked for damage can also be considered.
Keeping your home maintained and up to date can possibly raise your home value; depending upon credit and loan approval, it’s possible that you may be able to refinance your current mortgage resulting in a better interest rate than previously obtained!
If that is the case, Future Home Loans offers many different services related to your mortgage needs. To learn more about refinancing or getting a loan for improvements on your home during this new season click here.
